Picabeen is an approved No Interest Loan ( NILs) Provider and loans may be applied for at Picabeen Community Centre

Due to an increased volume of enquiries – we are only able to process applications from people who reside within our catchment area which includes  Arana Hills, Enoggera, Everton Park, Gaythorne, Grovely, Keperra, Mitchelton, Ferny Grove, Ferny Hills and Upper Kedron

PLEASE NOTE: Our NILS volunteers only attend Picabeen on Wednesday, and this is the only day that appointments are made

Unexpected expenses are bound to pop up from time to time. Don’t choose an option that might get you into trouble later. With NILs, you only pay back what you borrow, nothing more

How does NILs work?

Once approved you submit your invoice and NILs will pay it straight to the supplier / vendor. Loans cannot be used for cash, bills, debts or rent

What can I use a NILs loan for? 

Borrow up to $2,000 for essential goods and services including:

  • Household items like appliances,whitegoods & furniture
  • Car repairs
  • Medical,dental,wellbeing and life event expenses
  • Technology like a computer or laptop ( up to $2,000 limit)
  • Technology like a phone,tablet,and other small electronic devices (up to $1000 limit)
  • Education expenses like fees or uniforms
  • Employment expenses like licenses or equipment

Nils cannot be used for cash, bills, rent or debts

Am I eligible?

  • have a Health Care or Pension Card

OR

  • earn less than $70,000 ( before tax) as a single

OR

  • earn less than $100,000 (before tax) if you have a partner or dependents

OR

  • have experienced family or domestic violence in last 10 years

AND

  • you have lived at your current address for a minimum of three months

AND

  • you can afford to repay the loan ( Centrepay and direct debit availab

If you meet the eligibility criteria outlined above you may start  by completing the NILS Enquiry Online below and clicking on the Submit Panel at the bottom of the form . Your enquiry will be forwarded to Picabeen and we will contact you within 14 days to make an appointment to discuss your enquiry

The NILS interview process can take up to 2 hours and as such we are not able to accommodate young children in the interview room. To provide the best possible experience, we only offer phone interviews for parents/caregivers who have children under 5 years old in their care at the time of the interview.

  • Picabeen Community Association Inc to use Centrelink Confirmation eServices to perform a Centrelink enquiry of my customer details in order to enable the business to determine if I qualify for a No Interest Loan (NILS) service.
  • Services Australia to provide the results of that enquiry to Picabeen Community Association Inc.
  • I Understand

  • Services Australia will disclose personal information to Picabeen Community Association Inc including my name, payment type, payment status, one off payment, income, assets, deductions, shared care arrangements and Youth Allowance Independent Rate to confirm my eligibility for relevant NILS service
  • this consent, once signed, remains valid while I am a customer of Picabeen Community Association Inc unless I withdraw it by contacting Picabeen Community Association Inc or Services Australia.
  • Picabeen Community Association Inc may disclose information contained in the Centrelink statement of information to Good Shepard for the purpose of providing the NILS Loan
  • I can get proof of my circumstances/details from Services Australia and provide it to Picabeen Community Association Inc so they can determine my eligibility for relevant NILS service
  • if I withdraw my consent or don’t alternatively provide proof of my circumstances or details, I may not be eligible for the NILS service provided by Picabeen Community Association Inc.

    Client Rights

  • Be treated fairly and with respect regardless of your personal circumstances and beliefs
  • Be told if you can apply for a loan and how to do so
  • Know and agree to what happens to the information we keep about you and your financial situation
  • Give feedback or make a complaint without affecting whether or not you get help from us
  • If available,access an interpreter, advocate, or other support person to assist with the NILS application
  • Receive a loan without fees, charges or interest if your application is approved
  • Be informed about the loan decision making process
  • Be referred to financial counselling if you need to
  • Put NILS repayments on hold or change the amount
  • you repay if you get into difficulties repaying the loan
  • Restart loan repayments if you stop
  • Be able to apply additional lending once you've met the 90 days (3 months) no missed repayment criteria( up to a total of the higher limit of the combined loan purposes if you can afford it)
  • Be able to apply for another NILS loan ( up to a total of the higher limit of the loan purpose if you can afford it) if you are eligible once you've succesfully repaid your current loan
  • Client Responsibilities

  • Act in a manner that respects the rights of other clients, staff and volunteers of the organisation
  • Give clear information to assess the loan
  • Make sure the information you give us is accurate
  • Let us know if you're happy or unhappy with our service without being rude or aggressive
  • Tell us if you would like someone with you during the loan interview or to help with the loan application
  • Make regular payments and pay the loan back so that someone else in the community can get a loan like you did
  • Ensure all information provided is true and correct, and that no false or misleading information is given at any time
  • Tell us if you have any financial difficulties now
  • Tell us if you have any financial difficulties in the future. Restart payments as soon as possible
  • Make regular payments when you restart, tell us if you have any financial difficulties in the future
  • Meet the repayment amounts for the first loan and for any additional borrowings
  • Be able to meet the repayments for the new loan
